Triangular silver trowel with a rounded profile and point. The handle is cylindrical with a thickening in the distal end and mouldings on the other end that joins the trowel blade. It is decorated with a commemorative engraving on the upper side with the following inscription in capital letters: “S.M. EL REY D. ALFONSO XIII INAUGURÓ LAS OBRAS DEL FERROCARRIL ESTRATÉGICO DE VILLAJOYOSA Á DENIA CON ESTA PALETA EL DÍA 13 DE FEBRERO DE 1911” (H.M. King Alfonso XIII inaugurated the important railway line between Villajoyosa and Denia with this trowel, on 13th February 1911). There are three silver marks on the upper side of the trowel, near to where the handle joins the blade; the symbol of the City of Madrid, the hallmark and the silversmith. It was made by the Madrid craftsman Ramón Espuñen, and was probably produced in the Real Fábrica de Platería de Madrid (Royal Silver Factory of Madrid).

This trowel, similar to other commemorative trowels, was made for the inauguration of the narrow gauge railway line which connected Alicante and Denia, the ceremony of which was attended by King Alfonso XIII.
