The towers, during the first phase of the town wall, housed artillery, as shown in the following reconstruction of towers VI and VIII, the latter of which is shown containing catapults or ballistae.

Projectiles which would have been launched from these catapults have been found during the excavations. Petrographic analysis indicates that they are made of andesite, a volcanic rock found in the Cartagena region, which suggests that the munition was probably acquired by Lucentum from the Punic capital.
