The MARQ is an archaeology museum that is committed to the renovation of the traditional exhibition system, understood as a collection of duly classified and catalogued finds.
MARQ is a project conceived and developed from the challenge of being the first archaeological museum of the 21st century.
A journey through history
The past of a people, in whose origins different civilisations succeeded one another, is definitive in the evolution and configuration of a people, and we must transmit this to all those who come to MARQ.
El Museo Arqueológico Provincial de Alicante es muy interesante desde el punto de vista didáctico y a la vez divertido, riguroso y espectacular.
The Museum also offers the possibility of learning about the archaeological method. In three rooms, the Field Archaeology Room, the Urban Archaeology Room and the Underwater Archaeology Room, there are scenographies, audiovisuals and interactive displays that allow visitors to learn about the techniques used by archaeologists to discover the past and offer valuable information displayed in an attractive and didactic way.
In addition, the Museum has exhibition spaces for temporary exhibitions and the necessary facilities to carry out research, conservation, restoration, cataloguing and dissemination tasks.
The different thematic areas offer visitors the opportunity to take an exciting journey through history. The Museum welcomes visitors by immersing them in the geographic space of Alicante, showing them the rich and varied landscape and monuments of these lands. From there begins the historical journey through the permanent rooms of Prehistory, Iberian Culture, Roman Culture, the Middle Ages and the Modern and Contemporary Ages.
In the MARQ, the different exhibition areas are linked by means of introductory thematic blocks that give chronological continuity to the contents and are supported by interactive spaces that include detailed information about archaeological sites, descriptions of the archaeological pieces on display, ways of life of the different cultures, etc.
