The Lady of Cabezo Lucero returns to MARQ

After forming an important part of the temporary exhibition "Man or gods? A new look at the sculpture of the Iberian world", the also known as the Lady of Guardamar returns to the Alicante museum, where it can be seen again in the room dedicated to Iberian culture from Friday 21st October.

The Dama de Cabezo Lucero, also known as the Dama de Guardamar, was temporarily transferred to the Regional Archaeological Museum of Madrid on 30 June to form part of the temporary exhibition "Man or gods? A new look at sculpture in the Iberian world", an exhibition that has brought together some of the most important examples of Iberian statuary from different Spanish archaeological museums for four months.

The Lady was found during excavations in 1987 at the archaeological site of Cabezo Lucero (Guardamar del Segura, Alicante) and was later reconstructed from numerous fragments with appropriate criteria and meticulous work. Its features are similar to the well-known Dama de Elche and perhaps both sculptures were made by the same sculptural workshop in southern Iberian Contestania at different times. It probably represents a woman of the Iberian aristocracy, but we cannot rule out the possibility that it was the image of a goddess.

The sculpture has already toured on other occasions to form part of temporary exhibitions. In 2003 in the "Encounter of Iberian ladies" at the National Archaeological Museum, and that same year it was exhibited, together with the digital copy of the Lady of Elche, at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche.
