Mayas. The Enigma of the Lost Cities, Emporia Gold Award 2017

The design of Mayas. The enigma of the lost citiesby the Rocamora Arquitectura studio, deserved this award in the category of Best Installation of a Non-Travelling Exhibition, in the words of the jury, "because its design reinforces the pieces on display and facilitates their intense enjoyment, constructing an emotional and powerful scenography. The 3 rooms build a scenographic discourse that takes us to the streets of Tikal, to the interior of its pyramids and, finally, submerges us under the sheet of water of a mythological cenote".

The EMPORIA, National Awards for Ephemeral Architecture, are organised every year by the Col-legi Professional d'Interioristes de Catalunya and Veredictas Internacional, with the support of the Col.legi de Arquitectes de Catalunya and the Agrupació Joves Arquitectes de Catalunya, the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura de Barcelona and the main national associations of the trade fair sector.

This is the sixth edition of the Emporia Awards, the only competition held in Spain for ephemeral architecture and which has become a benchmark of excellence for professionals. The Awards recognise constructive and communication aspects such as the relationship between space and use, the relationship between decoration and brand values, the best technical solutions, creativity and respect for the environment.

For Angel RocamoraThe set of pieces in the Maya exhibition at the MARQ are spectacular, of the highest historical quality, with an aesthetic charge to match. So the challenge of designing a scenographic support for this group of pieces was a complicated exercise, as well as an exciting one.

What materialises in the project that can be visited at MARQ is a setting for the senses, visual, sound, tactile, olfactory... that complement the visit to the user, and accompany the pieces and an exceptional technical discourse, at the forefront of research and rigorous, that reaches the public in a more complex way but at the same time in a more permeable, powerful and attractive way. In the last 3 years MARQ's work has been recognised on 5 occasions with these prestigious EMPORIA awards in different categories, but the one achieved in this edition is the most I could wish for, so I would like to express my appreciation to MARQ and my gratitude to all its staff, because it is truly a pride to work with them".

The President of the Diputación de Alicante, César Sánchezexpressed his satisfaction for this new recognition, extending his congratulations to the entire team of professionals who have made it possible. "This national award comes on top of the excellent reception the exhibition has received from the thousands of visitors who have passed through the museum, which is about to reach the figure of 60,000 people", said the president.

Mayas. The enigma of the lost citiescan be visited at the Marq until 7 January.
