Massive farewell to the MAYAS

Richard Mille Replica

The Maya bid farewell to MARQ after a seven-month stay with us. A unique, accessible and didactic exhibition, in which the beauty of its almost 200 pieces has rivalled the spectacular design of its exhibition set-up, awarded the Emporia de Oro-2017. An enveloping setting, divided into three rooms, through which no less than 97,590 people have passed, breathing in the aromas of cocoa, corn, jungle... amid ethnic music, birdsong and the sounds of water; strolling among pyramids and temples, and living an eerie experience in the disturbing Mayan underworld. The MARQ has completed this journey through the Mayan civilisation by taking us to the centre of the Spanish archaeological excavations at La Blanca-Bilonché, Tikal and Uxmal in the main hall of the Museum Library, where we have been able to see some of the most interesting discoveries made by Spanish researchers in Guatemala, which, little by little, are shedding light on an enigmatic culture that still holds many mysteries.

The success of this exhibition would not have been possible without the support of the institutions that have collaborated in this project: the Diputación de Alicante and the other patrons of MARQ; the five Guatemalan and German museums and cultural centres that lent the pieces; our partners in Assen and Speyer, with whom we shared the project, bringing these collections to the European public for the first time; the Caja Murcia, Asisa, La Caixa and Palarq Foundations; National Geographic España, the Universities of Bonn, Valencia and Valencia Polytechnic, and the Complutense University of Madrid; the Spanish Royal House, and, of course, without the people whose daily work has pampered this exhibition and its visitors: the security, cleaning, maintenance, didactic and accessibility staff, the guides, the customer service team, the social networks and web team, the communication and institutional relations team, the Barq and the shop, the catering, exhibition, administration, assembly, design, image... to all the workers of Rocamora Arquitectura, Antra, Iris, Ordax, Frasa2, Hiscox, Kuhn&Bülow, Willis Iberia, Big Things, VdH, Crehaz, CRE Once, Fesord; the Department of Culture and Architecture of the Provincial Council of Alicante, the Communication Office of the same, the CV-MARQ Foundation and the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante... Thank you for making Mayas an unrepeatable exhibition.

And to the nearly 100,000 visitors who have filled our galleries since 25 May until yesterday, THANK YOU for motivating us to continue working to improve this little piece of the heritage of all Alicante residents that is the MARQ.
