The Unión de Entidades Festeras de Moros y Cristianos, UNDEF, held its national assembly this past weekend in El Campello and the festeros wanted to take advantage of the occasion to enjoy one of the wonders of the Alicante municipality: the archaeological site of the Illeta dels Banyets.
Those attending the meeting were able to take a dramatised visit by the Espacio Inspira theatre company, in which, in an entertaining but rigorous way, they were introduced to the history of the Illeta, cradle of civilisations.
The latest archaeological excavations at Illeta dels Banyets have allowed the visitor itinerary to be extended and have uncovered two exceptional finds: the fragment of a stone sculpture, the first concrete vestige of a carving to appear in the enclave, and a lead sheet with signs of Iberian writing.
