DASA AWARD 2024
MARQ receives the DASA AWARD 2024 from the European Museum Academy, EMA, in the category of didactics, accessibility and social responsibility.
The MARQ CV Foundation has been distinguished with the DASA 2024 award for its educational, accessibility and social responsibility programmes at the MARQ. This award was presented by the European Museum Academy, EMA, at its annual meeting held in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 5 October.
This award highlights the educational programmes of cultural centres and museums, both for schoolchildren and for vulnerable groups and those at risk of social exclusion, the disabled, migrants and the elderly, among others, that connect with the communities closest to them, to encourage their active participation directly or in collaboration with associations and public or private entities, that stand out for their innovative and daring approach, with the aim of facilitating access to culture for all citizens regardless of their origin, level of studies and abilities.
The EMA, the European Museum Academy, a non-profit foundation based in the Netherlands, was created on the tenth anniversary of the death of the museologist Kenneth Hudson (1916-1999) by a group of European museum and cultural professionals who had participated with Hudson in the creation of the European Museum of the Year Award, under the auspices of the Council of Europe and with the patronage of Queen Fabiola of Belgium. Its aims are to preserve the legacy of Kenneth Hudson and to disseminate the ideas and values of this pioneer of modern museology to new generations of museum and cultural professionals throughout Europe.
In which the education departments are central, the EMA organises the annual Children in Museums Awards by its programming for children up to the age of 14 years, the DASA awards to didactics, accessibility and social responsibility, the ARTE Museum awards and the Micheletti awards, to the innovative museographic and scientific content discourses of European cultural centres and museums.
The DASA focus on educational programmes, accessibility and social responsibility, valuing on the one hand the programmes themselves, and on the other hand the opportunities for learning, training and connection of European cultural centres and museums with the citizens and the territory in which they are implemented.
The Didactics, Accessibility, Club Llumiq and Social Responsibility Unit of the MARQ Foundation, created in 2005, has extensive experience in these areas, which has helped it to apply for the DASA 2024 awards, passing the first pre-selection of the jury in April and in June the evaluation visit that the EMA technicians carried out at MARQ itself and receiving the DASA 2024 award.
