Empower Parents 2024
MARQ as a tool for sharing experiences and forging links
With the aim of socialising young people with autism, between 5 and 12 years old, during their childhood and adolescence, the C.V. MARQ Foundation promotes several initiatives to bring them closer to the MARQ, the archaeological sites and monuments, archaeology and history. Thus, since last November, the Empower Parents programme has been running, in which young people with autism and their families from all over the province take part.
The programme, EMPOWER PARENTSThe project was born out of an experience carried out in the Queens Museum in New Yorkwith the development and research of models of intervention with people with autism, using museums and cultural centres as a tool for formative and socialising inclusion.
A programme of cultural mediation, promoted in Spain by the Fundación ICO and the organisation EMPOWERwith the aim of promoting access to culture for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families, which has been extended to different museums and cultural institutions in our country, among which is the MARQ Foundation, with the realization of this course of 8 experiential sessions on Fridays and Saturdays, in which the Unit of Didactics, Club Llumiq, Accessibility and Social Responsibility of the Foundation and the families with sons and daughters with different types and levels of autism affectation, between 5 and 12 years old, turn the MARQ into a space of relationship and exploration where to share experiences and establish links. Besides facilitating tools to the families so that they can access with their children, in an autonomous way, to the cultural life that is closer to them. The MARQ is thus transformed into a common space in which to meet, talk, dance and also enjoy culture, contributing to the creation of a network of non-exclusive museum and cultural spaces. In this video we explain the project in detail and we offer you the testimonies of the families that participate in it.
