Some of the most outstanding vestiges of the Mayan culture are now in the MARQ, which is beginning the countdown to the new international exhibition on Mesoamerican archaeology.
The Deputy for Culture, César Augusto AsencioThis morning he attended the opening of the boxes, supervised by the director of the Ruta Maya Foundation, Sofia Catalina Paredeswho unpacked one of the key pieces in the exhibition. It is a spectacular sculpture of a man with the attributes of a jaguard, one of the most emblematic symbols of this civilisation, which for many years was in a private collection as a result of looting. The figure, which forms part of the almost 200 pieces that make up the exhibition "Mayas. El enigma de las Ciudades Perdidas" (The Enigma of the Lost Cities), consists of two parts, is almost three metres long and is made of stucco.
The MARQ's new cultural proposal, which will be inaugurated on 25 May, will remain in Alicante until January 2018.
