The MARQ completes the exhibition 'Gladiators. Heroes of the Colosseum' with a new fresco of the Pompeii amphitheatre

The MARQ has received the original part Fighting between Pompeians and Nucerines in the amphitheatre of Pompeii'.a fresco from the 1st century A.D. which, from midday this afternoon, is part of the exhibition Gladiators. Heroes of the Roman Coliseum'.. Its installation has been carried out in full view of the public so as not to interrupt the exhibition and to show the process. This incorporation, which replaces an exact replica loaned by the Archaeological Museum of Naplescompletes the international exhibition, which will be on display until 16 October in the Alicante museum.

The Vice-President and Member of Parliament for Culture, Julia Parrahas visited the MARQ to make a installation monitoring of this fresco, also owned by the Museum of Naples. The Head of Culture confirmed that "this is undoubtedly one of the most important and highest quality pieces in this outstanding exhibition, a pioneer in Spain, which has aroused the interest of the public with more than 11,100 visitors registered in just three weeks".

The proposal was inaugurated on 13 April with a replica of the Pompeii fresco which has temporarily replaced the original one while the bureaucratic formalities for their departure from Japan. The fresco was previously exhibited in this country as part of a temporary exhibition. The operation has been approved and supervised by the curator of the exhibition, Rossella ReaThe museum has also been visited by technicians from the MARQ and the Neapolitan museum.

The piece is a mural painting The scene was painted between that year and 79 (destruction of the area by Vesuvius), in the 1st century A.D. It is one of the few Roman frescoes -contradictorily thanks to the misfortune of the eruption of Vesuvius- that have survived to the present day in an unfinished Roman fresco. excellent state of preservationThis reflects the capability and professionalism of MANN's technicians.
