The Archaeological Museum of Alicante is dedicating this summer period to the youngest visitors with a wide and fun cultural programme that includes theatre workshops, games and guided tours. Through these fun and educational activities, which will take place between 1 July and 23 August, the MARQ aims to disseminate the archaeological heritage of the province, as well as to arouse the curiosity of the youngest visitors to discover the history of their ancestors.
In this sense, the calendar of activities includes weekly courses that will take place from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 at the cultural centre. This initiative, aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 14, will allow them to get to know the MARQ's permanent collection and discover Alicante's archaeology from prehistoric times to the modern era. Participants will also be able to see the contents of the new international exhibition "The Kingdom of Salt. 7,000 years of Hallstatt's history". The exhibition, which will open in mid-June, reveals to the public the secrets of the Hallstatt culture, a period that includes the transition between the Bronze Age and the Iron Age and which developed in an area located in the north of Austria.
Another of the options offered by the MARQ's summer activities programme is the guided visit to the archaeological sites of Tossal de Manises, in the Roman city of Lucentum, or the Illeta dels Banyets, in El Campello. These excursions will take place every Friday morning on TRAM. In addition, on Friday afternoons the children will be able to invite their families to visit the museum and share with them all the knowledge acquired throughout the week.
The deputy for Culture Juan Bautista Roselló pointed out that the main aim of this initiative is for participants not only to learn about history and archaeology, but also to have fun and enjoy themselves in a fun and different way. It is about offering culture, projecting the MARQ among the young public and disseminating values such as respect, teamwork and solidarity.
A farewell party is planned for the end of August in the gardens of the cultural centre, which will be open to all participants, family and friends.
In order to facilitate participation and organisation, the museum requests prior registration. Those interested can obtain further information at llumiq club website www.clubllumiq.co.uk or at the centre's ticket offices.
