TheArchaeological Museum of Alicante promotes the cultural integration of deaf people through tours given by hearing-impaired guides. The MARQ's Didactics Department has developed this innovative initiative in collaboration with the Associació de Persones Sordes de L'Alacantí -APESOA- (Association of Deaf People of L'Alacantí) with the aim of improving quality of life and promoting autonomy and integration of this group in the different social spheres.
The technical staff of the Alicante museum has been in charge of training the members of the association, who will give these one-hour sessions that will start next year. Saturday 9 March at 5.30 p.m. with a guided tour to the temporary exhibition "Santa Pola. Archaeology and Museum".
MARQ will also develop dramatised visits throughout the year also in sign language. To carry out this activity, the contents of the exhibitions have been adapted to a theatrical script that will allow the hearing impaired to learn about and enjoy culture in a pleasant and visual way.
In this regard, the deputy for Culture Juan Bautista Roselló has pointed out that with this type of initiative, the Alicante centre reinforces its commitment to disabled groups and continues to work on accessibility programmes as a key element to ensure that everyone can access the rich archaeological heritage of the province of Alicante..
