The MARQ Archaeological Excavations Plan will reach eight sites in the province this year.

 

MARQ will continue this year with its archaeological excavation programmeThis is one of the most complete and rigorous in the Valencian Community, both for the historical periods it covers - from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages - and for the territorial scope in which it is carried out. The main objective of this work is to documenting and conducting extensive scientific research of the findings that are recovered, as well as to advance our knowledge of the ancient civilisations that populated different enclaves in the province of Alicante.

        In this sense, throughout 2014, the team of archaeologists from the Alicante museum will be working on the sites of Cabezo de Pardo in the Vega Baja, the Slopes of the Castle of Callosa de Segurathe Randero Cave of Pedreguer, the Cova de L'Or in Beniarrés, the Penyal d'Ifac in Calpe, the Illeta dels Banyets in El Campello, as well as the Albufereta Bay and the Tossal de Manisesboth in Alicante.

       The provincial institution will allocate a total of 107,500 euros to carry out this work, which will begin next year. month of May in the slopes of the Callosa de Segura Castlewhere it will proceed to the opening of an area of fifteen square metres to record their structures and the sequence of the area.         The archaeological intervention in the Penyal d'Ifac will focus on the extension of the work begun in previous campaigns focusing on the west and north walls, the gate, the Church and the Necropolis.
