INTERNATIONAL FAIR

TARRACO VIVA 2010

ROME IN THE MUSEUMS OF THE WORLD
VIII International Fair of Cities, Museums and Archaeological Sites of the Roman Period
Tarragona, 28,29 and 30 May 2010

Once again, MARQ will be present at the Tarraco Viva Roman dissemination conference that will take place in Tarragona from 28th to 30th May. These conferences, which this year celebrate their eighth edition, aim to disseminate and promote those museums and sites that work in the dissemination of the culture and civilization of ancient Rome, becoming an important and rigorous tool of historical dissemination whose main purposes are to enhance the interest and awareness of historical heritage and its conservation.

The MARQ will be attending this event for the seventh consecutive year with a space in which, in addition to offering information about the museum and its Archaeological Parks - thereby raising awareness of the archaeological legacy of the Province of Alicante - it will present to the public at the fair the temporary exhibitions currently on display at the MARQ, "The enigma of the mummy. El rito funerario en el Antiguo Egipto" and "Objetos egipcios en Alicante", as well as the educational material elaborated by the Gabinete Didáctico del MARQ about these exhibitions.

The Tarraco Viva fair thus becomes a showcase for Europe's Roman heritage, an exercise in historical recovery for adults and a spectacle with notable didactic contributions for children. Among the numerous activities that take place over the weekend are the "International Meeting of Roman Period Historical Reconstruction Groups", the International Fair of Museums, Monuments and Archaeological Sites from the Roman period, the Roman Historical Dissemination Products Fair and a multitude of educational workshops for children and adults, which bring visitors closer to everyday Roman life.

MARQ's participation in Tarraco Viva offers us a privileged space to show the archaeological legacy of the Province of Alicante, our museum, the Archaeological Parks and our Temporary Exhibition: "The enigma of the mummy. The funerary rite in Ancient Egypt" to a large public, more than 5,000 people in 2009, with a special interest in history. It also offers us the possibility of exchanging information on the work and realities of museums and institutions, with their contributions in the field of historical dissemination.
