The Light of Rome exhibition lands in Elche with a collection of oil lamps from the Roman period

 

       The Archaeological and History Museum of Elche (MAHE) opened the travelling exhibition opened its doors yesterday evening Light of Romea sample consisting of Roman oil lamps which compiles 43 pieces from various collections. The objective of this new proposal, which promotes the Provincial Government of AlicanteThe aim is to learn about the usefulness, shape and decoration of these small objects, which changed over the centuries of Roman rule.

         The Member of Parliament for Culture and Education, César Augusto AsencioThe initiative was presented yesterday evening at 8 p.m., and will be reinforced by various explanatory panels which cover topics related to the production and trade of lucernas, as well as two audiovisuals which provide complementary information. Asencio was accompanied by the director of MARQ, Manuel Olcinathe curator of the exhibition, Anna GarciaThe regional director in Elche of the Banco Sabadell Foundation and sponsor of the proposal, José Manuel Sánchezand the Councillor for Culture of the City Council of Elche, Patricia Maciá

    The objects that make up this compilation, which can be visited until 7 May, come from both the Archaeological Museum of Alicante and from the Monographic Museum of La Alcudia of Elche and of the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Elda. Of these, one bronze example stands out, a glazed skylight decorated with two horse heads and a circular lamp with numerous light holes.
