The exhibition on the Mayan civilisation receives nearly 45,000 visits during its first months at MARQ

 

MARQ's international exhibition "Mayas. The enigma of the lost cities" continues to break records and, since it was inaugurated at the end of May, it has already been visited by about 45,000 people. A total of 211 objects mainly from the Museo Nacional de Arqueología y Etnología in Guatemala make up this spectacular exhibition, never before shown in Spain, which will remain at the Alicante centre. until 7 January 2018.

With an exceptional exhibition set-up that occupies the three temporary halls of the MARQ, the visitor can to know facts about Mesoamerican archaeology and contemplate vestiges so prominent like the sculpture of a man with jaguar attributes, a jade mask or various stelae, plates and censers.

 

XIII Campaign 'Summer at MARQ'

         Also of particular relevance are the figures for the children's activities programme which takes place every summer at the Alicante museum and which this year has counted with the participation of more than 1,500 children.

The 'Summer at MARQ' campaign, which this year has reached its thirteenth edition, is addressed to children aged 6 to 12 years. These one-week courses allow them to learning while playing, dancing, paint, decorate masks or make headdresses and earmuffs. The children also visited the museum's permanent collection, as well as the international exhibition "....Mayas. The enigma of the lost cities"The exhibition, which brings to life the customs and secrets of this civilisation.

These figures put the number of visits to the Alicante museum as of 31 August at 90,728 peoplewhich, together with the 14,461 that have taken place in the sites and monuments managed by the MARQ, bring the total number of sites and monuments to 105,189 visits6,249 more than at 31 August 2016.
