The history, culture and archaeology of Orihuela will be the focus of the next temporary exhibition at MARQ.

 

The MARQ is currently finalising preparations for its next temporary exhibition, which, entitled "Orihuela.Archaeology and Museum", will offer a complete tour of history and culture of this municipality in the Vega Baja, from Prehistory to the Contemporary Era.

         More than 260 pieces from different museums in Orihuela and other cultural complexes in the city make up this exhibition, which will be inaugurated next year. thursday 20 february and which presents a thirty objects that have been recovered by the Restoration Laboratory of the MARQ.

         Among the pieces, the following stand out ceramics of Argaric chronology found in the excavations carried out by the Father Julio Furgústhe one known as "Idol of Orihuela", also dated to the Bronze Age and coming from the Llano de San Miguela tremis of the Visigothic King Sisebuto (612-621), as well as a Hebraic stele dated to the 6th-7th centuries.

         This exhibition is part of the programme "Municipal Museums at MARQ"an initiative that started in 2004 and with which the Alicante complex aims to showcase the province's most important archaeological collections. This proposal also allows the contents of the cultural centres to be renewed through the incorporation of restored pieces and the inclusion of new museographic formats.
