The new MARQ exhibition reviews Petrer's rich heritage

In the late 1960s the Dámaso Navarro Group started work on the recovery of the Petrer's rich archaeological and ethnological heritage. Now, fifty years later, and thanks to the collections housed in the local museum that bears the name of the famous researcher, the MARQ has inaugurated an exhibition that offers visitors a walk through the history of this village in the Vinalopó Valley.

The Member of Parliament for Culture and Education, César Augusto Asenciohas presented the exhibition which, entitled Petrer. Archaeology and museum'.reviews the important sites of the area, such as the Roman artisan quarter of Villa Petraria, and includes objects typical of the pre-industrial society of Petreres.. The mayoress and the town's councillor for culture were also present, Irene Navarro and Fernando Portillorespectively, as well as the technical director of MARQ, Manuel OlcinaThe exhibition was curated by the director of the Dámaso Navarro Museum and curator of the exhibition, Fernando Tenderothe Managing Director of the Caja Murcia Foundation, Pascual Martínez, as well as the Managing Director of MARQ, José Alberto Cortés.

Asencio stressed that "knowing our roots and our history is essential and that is the purpose of the cycle of local museums that more than a decade ago, in 2004, opened a successful line of collaboration and dissemination between the MARQ and the town councils and museums of our province. From prehistoric times to the contemporary period this new proposal, the thirteenth of the MARQ's 'Municipal Museums' programme, will close next May.
