The Almudaina Almohad Tower celebrates its seventh year of opening with an open day

 

 

 

       The MARQ has organised this weekend a special open day in theAlmudaina Almohad Tower coinciding with its seventh year of opening to the public. Through this proposal, with free access and aimed at people of all agesThe Provincial Government aims to disseminate and publicise the history of this fortress, which dates back to the first half of the 13th century and has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

         Thus, today Friday 12th and Saturday 13th August the monument can be visited free of charge during opening hours. from 09:00 to 13:00 hours and from 18:00 to 21:00 hourswhile the Sunday 14 August access will be free from 09:00 to 13:00 hours.

      Throughout these seven years, more than 12,700 people have approached this complex dating back to the Islamic period managed by the MARQ Foundationwhich highlights the cultural heritage of the province. Schoolchildren and visitors from all over Alicante and the rest of Spain have been able to enjoy this museum, divided into four floorsThe museum offers a journey through the history of this structure and of the municipality of Almudaina.

         The managing director of the Alicante centre, Josep Albert CortésHe emphasised that ".The Almudaina Tower is a very important heritage, cultural and tourist resource for the province of Alicante thanks to its rich history. In addition, its height and privileged location have made it a perfect vantage point from which to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Valle de Planes that connects with the castles and watchtowers of the entire inland area.".

    The property was restored and museumised by on Architecture Area of the provincial institution. After its opening to the public in August 2009, the Tower was integrated into the network of sites parchaeological parks and interpretation centres of MARQ and its Foundation.

    "The restoration carried out in the enclave and its surroundings allows the visitor to understand, through the traces found in its walls, the curious technique used in its construction and the aftermath of the changes suffered in its eight hundred years of history."explained Cortés.

      With the aim of deepening the contents of the Tower, the Diputación de Alicante offers throughout the year a series of visits guided given by qualified personnel. Exhibition visits "Vikings"

         MARQ's international exhibition "Vikings. Warriors of the North. Giants of the Sea". beat his record on Wednesday of visitors by welcoming in a single day 1,085 persons.

         "This increase in the number of visitors on a single day has not been seen since the museum hosted the exhibitions. "The Beauty of the Body in 2009 and "The Enigma of the Mummy". in 2010"explained the managing director of the MARQ, who added that ".these figures highlight the great interest aroused by this exhibition and make it one of the most visited exhibitions of the last five years.".

         A total of 663 pieces from the National Museum of Denmark The exhibition, which will remain at the Alicante centre, is composed of until next January and offers the public an interesting journey through the history, customs and development of the Viking civilisation.
