The 160,000 visitors to MARQ in 2016 consolidate its position as Spain's leading museum.

 

 

 

 

   The Archaeological Museum of Alicante continues to break public attendance records. This is attested by a growth of almost 25% of visits compared to 2015 both in the museum facilities and in the sites of the Illeta dels Banyets, Lucentum, Torre de Almudaina and Castell de Castells. Almost 160,000 people have enjoyed the MARQ's proposals, where scientific and research rigour coexists with a language of dissemination accessible to all.

   This was explained this morning by the deputy for Culture and Education, César Augusto Asenciowho insisted that "The Provincial Government's main commitment is to make the MARQ a museum for everyone and the figures show that this objective has been achieved. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the inauguration of the Archaeological Museum of Alicante in the old hospital and the 85th anniversary of the Provincial Council's Archaeology Service, so it is a great satisfaction to see that the work carried out has the acceptance and support of both the general and more specialised public.".

   Of the total number of visitors, 135,791 were to the archaeological museum which recorded a strong increase of 29,8% compared to 2015, while the archaeological sites and monuments managed by MARQ and included in its cultural offering increased their visitors by 15.8% over the past year.

    The Alicante museum centre is characterised by its interesting proposals, an exhibition programme in which this year the international exhibitions have stood out. "Vikings. Warriors of the North. Giants of the Sea". and"Uruguay in GuaraniThe large number of people who come to see the productions of the company's own productions on tour, such as  "Light of Rome  and"Stone Guardians"which have attracted more than 16.385 people during 2016.

    In addition, among the intense activity of the MARQ during 2016, its extensive educational and training programme stands out, as well as its research programme, as evidenced by its annual excavation, restoration, cataloguing and fund management plan, its publications, as well as the organisation of conferences, congresses and seminars, together with the Master in Professional Archaeology in collaboration with the UA. International Viking Seminar held in November or the 3rd International Congress on Accessibilitylast October.

    In the same way, the Llumiq Club has reached 13.292 registered. During the last Christmas campaign, more than 1,751 friends enjoyed activities such as children's theatre and Christmas educational workshops organised at the museum, as well as fun activities held on the occasion of Exponadal.

    As for the website, the page is around the 200.000 visits(which is 22.22% more than in 2015) and highlights the interest it arouses abroad, where in recent months it has increased considerably its viewing from countries such as Denmark, Canada, Norway and Sweden. This high number of followers highlights the interactive aspect of the centre which, together with its constant dynamism and updating, has contributed to MARQ appearing after the National Archaeological Museum in the world's most popular search engines.
