The museums and cultural centres of Alicante continue with their tireless work to bring culture closer to the public, and on this occasion, they have wanted to approach the tourist sector of our city through a collaboration with APHA, the Provincial Association of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation of Alicante.
The proposal of Alicante museums is to promote cultural tourism and to bring all users of accommodation in the city and the province closer to the different cultural spaces.
For this purpose, and after several meetings between representatives of each of the museums and the president of APHA, Luis Castillo, a display will be placed in the receptions of the first hotels with brief general information about each of the museums and centres and a QR code that redirects to the joint website. MUSEA : Museums of Alicante.
30 hotels have already applied for the display, and the organisers hope that many more will join in the coming weeks, as it is a simple and quick way to have all the information about their cultural offer in one place.
The participating centres are the MACA (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Alicante), the Centro Cultural Las Cigarreras, the Sala de exposiciones de la Lonja, the Museo Nueva Tabarca and the MUSA on behalf of the City Council; the provincial cultural centres (MARQ (Museo Arqueológico de Alicante), MUBAG (Museo de Bellas Artes de Alicante), and the Instituto Alicantino de Cultura Alicantino Juan Gil Albert; The Ocean Race Museum, the MUA (Museo de la Universidad de Alicante), the Sede Universitaria Ciudad de Alicante and the Museo de Aguas de Alicante.
The Councillor for Culture, Nayma Beldjilali, highlights "the enormous effort that those in charge of the MACA, Cigarreras, Lonja, MUSA and Museo Nueva Tabarca make, not only to put together a programme of quality exhibitions and activities, but also to promote them among Alicante residents and tourists". "Some centres such as the MACA or the MUSA receive tens of thousands of tourists a year, but we are sure that this proposal will be a boost for them and for the rest of the centres".
The deputy for Culture, Juan De Dios Navarro, said that "from the Diputación de Alicante we are committed to strengthening the links in the value chain of culture and we firmly believe in collaboration between administrations to promote training, innovation and creative development. This initiative is a step forward and opens the door to a new avenue of cooperation with which to promote our rich cultural heritage and support quality tourism.
The Vice-Rector for Culture, Sport and University Extension, Catalina Iliescu Gheorghiu, pointed out thatith this action one of the main objectives behind the creation of the MUSEA Group is fulfilled: to join forces and interests in the dissemination of our intense cultural offer, thus amplifying its scope, and allowing spaces such as the MUA and the City of Alicante Headquarters to enter the circuits that are committed to quality cultural tourism".
Martín Sanz, Director of Communication and Institutional Relations of Aguas de Alicante, emphasised that ".Although the Museo de Aguas de Alicante has already received around 250,000 visitors in the 15 years since its opening, which we are celebrating this 2024, we are convinced that this collaboration with APHA will allow us to make a place dedicated to environmental education and culture known to many more people. There are already many tourists who come to the slopes of the Benacantil and find this space and the Pozos de Garrigós; now, without a doubt, they will go up knowing that, in addition to the charm of the tour of the old town of Alicante, we are waiting for them in the Plaza del Puente with a wide range of cultural proposals and guided tours around a concept that has no borders: the care of water and the environment", Martín Sanz, Director of Communication and External Relations at Aguas de Alicante.
Jan Perez, director of The Ocean Race Museum, points out that "We at The Ocean Race Museum are very happy with this initiative and very grateful to APHA for the way they have embraced it and the wonderful response from their associates. The Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to The Ocean Race and its 50 years of history, which makes us very proud and we want to share it with everyone who visits Alicante".
For his part, Luis Castillo as president of APHA, said that "I have signed many agreements but I am particularly excited about this one. I admire Musea's initiative, I have always said that together we can go much further. In addition, hotels, flats and tourist accommodation need to make it easy for our guests to receive accurate information about our culture before they arrive. I think this is a great success.
All agreed that this is the first of many other actions that museums and cultural centres, as well as APHA, plan to carry out jointly.
