The Marq, once again, renews its collaboration with the Alicante Food Bank Foundation by installing a food collection point in the Museum throughout the Christmas Campaign, becoming, thanks to its staff, another volunteer in the noble task of helping the most disadvantaged. This commitment has materialised with the visit of the managing director of the Marq, José Alberto Cortés, to the central headquarters of the Food Bank in Mercalicante, together with the director of the Alicante foundation of this entity, Mr. Juan Vicente Peral, to learn first-hand about the needs of the bank and establish lines of collaboration.
From Friday 1 December, visitors to the Marq will be able to take part in the campaign organised by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks throughout the country, "La Gran Recogida de Alimentos", by contributing any type of non-perishable foodstuff, although preferentially, As Juan Vicente Peral pointed out, "there are basic staples that no household should be without, such as oil, milk, sugar, mashed potatoes, tinned meat and pre-cooked products, which Marq will in turn be responsible for delivering to the Bank's warehouses in Mercalicante".
This campaign will take place in 300 supermarkets and food shops throughout the province of Alicante simultaneously on 1 and 2 December; however, in the Marq it will be extended until 7 January next with the end of the Christmas activities programme of the Alicante museum, thus offering the possibility of collaborating in the campaign, beyond the first weekend of December, to all Alicante residents and visitors who come to the Plaza del Doctor Gómez Ulla during these days, said Cortés.
Juan Vicente Peral stressed the importance of the Christmas campaign "because the food shipment from the European Union will not arrive until February and there are many families in Alicante who depend on the help of charities such as the Food Bank to be able to eat every day". The Food Bank currently serves 33,500 people in the province of Alicante.
