Gold leaf
Penya Negra (Crevillent) Gold h: 43.4 mm; w: 21mm Orientalising 7th century BC.
Gold leaf decorated using the embossing technique. Six lines of dots delimit five horizontal fields of decoration: in the outermost two, a succession of bowl-shaped palmettes frame two rows of ducks that occupy the two innermost strips, arranged in a procession to the right, separated by a central strip of cruciform rosettes separated by large dots.
It was part of a small cache found next to a wall inside the Peña Negra settlement, which included rings, necklaces, scarabs and a fragment of raw silver. The dating of this group of materials on the basis of their stylistic parallels and the archaeological context in which they were found allows us to relate the concealment of this treasure to the final abandonment of the settlement.
