Treasure of Almoradí

This hoard consists of a total of 246 dirhams, one of which is attributed to the Eastern Umayyad Caliphate, having been minted in the east in the early years of the 8th century AD. The remaining 245 coins date from the 10th or early 11th century AD, of which 206 are dirhams from the Caliphate of Córdoba and 39 are dirhams from the Fatimid Caliphate. The large number of fragmentary and trimmed coins is remarkable, as there are only 27 whole pieces.

The treasure was kept in a hidden ceramic cauldron, far from inhabited places, during the first half of the 11th century AD. The reason for the owner's hiding it in anticipation of calmer times is to be sought in the climate of political instability that followed the disintegration of the Caliphate of Córdoba.
