Professionals and experts study at MARQ the projects for intervention in fortifications and castles in the province.

The I Fortifications Seminar started this morning in the Archaeological Museum of Alicante of recognised experts who, over two days, will be unravelling the long history of the historical trajectory of intervention in castles of the province. The proposal, promoted by the Diputación de Alicante, will also tackle the increased investments, projects and strategies in our territory.

The Member of Parliament for Culture, Julia ParraThe opening ceremony of the conference, which will also become an important event in the history of the tribute to professionals who have dedicated their work to highlighting the valuable heritage treasured by the province, one of the most important in the Iberian Peninsula for its number - 250 fortifications -, quality and typological variety. At the same time, as the deputy emphasised, the meeting will serve to make clear the duality of the presence of architects and archaeologists in current projects as the main actors in the intervention plans for this type of monuments.

In this sense, the Diputación de Alicante, through the areas of Architecture and Culture, and in particular the MARQ, is leading the proposals presented at this seminar with all of the projects carried out and implementedand others that are currently being implemented, aimed at preserving and conserving this historical legacy. The Almudaina Tower, The Tower of Les Maçanes or the Vernet Towerin Penàguila are some of the examples of these interventions in the fortified heritage of the province, together with the Perputxent Castlein L'Orxa, or the Castell de Planes.

On the other hand, the MARQ is developing a fundamental role in terms of the promotion of research and conservation of archaeological sitesas in the case of the Medieval town of Ifach, in Calp, included in the Annual Excavation Plan whose investments and discoveries allow new examples to be added to the already dense map of castles and fortifications in Alicante.
