The "Return with a new history" programme is the result of the collaboration between the C.V. MARQ Foundation and the Alicante Penitentiary Centre. The main objective of the programme is to promote accessibility for men and women in prison in order to promote knowledge of the history of the province of Alicante that the MARQ, the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante, holds and to turn the time spent in prison into a useful time in which to acquire new skills, experiences, knowledge, ideas...
The aim is to promote knowledge of history and also of the cultural resources made available to them through the museum, as a way of covering formative, recreational and motivational aspects, which allow the inmates who participate in it to obtain new and broader formative elements to achieve greater possibilities of social reintegration through knowledge of the social and cultural environment to which they must return.
In this third edition of the "Return with a new story"finalist of the European Art-Explora 2021 Awards, designed and produced by the Didactic Unit, Club Llumiq, Accessibility and Social Responsibility of the Fundaicón C.V. MARQ, we have focused on Roman culture in line with the two temporary exhibitions that the MARQ has displayed "Etruscans. The dawn of Rome" and "Gladiators. Heroes of the Coliseum".
The sessions have consisted of talks of approximately 90 minutes and didactic workshops, on Fridays at 11.00 am. Participation was offered to all residents in ordinary regime (those who do not enjoy regular outings because they are in third grade), after an informative session in which they were informed of the content and development of the sessions. In the end, around 170 inmates took part.
The last session took place on 3 June, where, after completing an evaluation survey, we were able to verify that the majority considered that the content was interesting, that they had acquired new knowledge, that they were satisfied with the sessions and that the teachers' explanations were clear and that there was very good communication with the students.
The Didactics Unit, Club Llumiq, Accessibility and Social Responsibility of the C.V. MARQ Foundation is working together with the technicians of the Alicante Penitentiary Centre on the Fourth Edition of this project which allows the The inmates get in touch with cultural life and awaken in them the curiosity to get to know the MARQ on wax.
